The concept of the exhibition:

2006 Cared for my parents after returning to Japan.
My father was diagnosed with spinocerebellar degeneration (an incurable disease of the cerebellum that controls motor function, gradually disappears – all functions of the body is lost while consciousness remains)

“I want you to look after me” my father told me, so I moved him into my home in Chofu. I was hoping for him to live but at the same time I was also hoping for him to die.  My world was restricted to a 100m radius, my only places of existence was LAWSON (a 24 hour convenient store) and my home.  Late one night I found peace.

2008 My father passes away at the same time my mother was diagnosed pancreatic cancer – she was given a life expectancy of 8 months (she received a life-prolonging treatment Hyperthermia in Mexico, Tijuana).

2008 My mother got pancreatic cancer’
We received word from an acquaintance of my mother, saying they knew of someone who had survived for ten years living with liver cancer, after an initial diagnosis of six months to live. The treatment was in Mexico, but there was no hesitation in making the decision to travel to the border city of Tijuana.

2010 My mother passed away.

My mother would always give me fake awards for my photos – the Cannes ‘Uncertain Regard Award in perspective’, my highest honour.

This Exhibition is 9 photos of ‘Uncertain Regard’ in my life.
